When I think back to choosing my first pair of glasses at the age of 15, the shelves were full of tiny rectagular shaped frames. Some plastic, some metal, but you could be sure they were all the same shape.
So I opted for a little pink metal frame from the NHS section and that was that. I am now very glad to say 14 years on, times have changed. There are Spring/Summer, Autumn/Winter releases and you can have a pair of glasses for each day of the week! So here are the latest trends from the Autumn/Winter 2019 catwalk.
Geometric Shapes
It’s great to have a little break from the norm sometimes and that’s exactly what geometric shapes are doing for eyewear. These octagonal specs from Chloe are a must have this season. This shape is very wearable and looks good on all face types. We recommend a rose gold colour to soften the look.
Crystal colours
Crystal frames have been aroud for a few years now, but with a fresh injection of colour we think they look better than ever. We love this green version by Paul Smith. From pink to grey there is a shade out there to suit all skin tones, which makes it one of the more wearable trends of the season.
Go big or go home
10 or so years ago, small narrow frames were a must have, how things change! This year is all about big lenses. From an optical point of view this will do wonders for your peripheral vision. You can have metal, plastic or rimless but our frame of choice is this metal by Barton Perreira.
Go bold or go home?
Bold, statement frames have always been a classic. Cutler & Gross have been designing them for many years. We would recommend them to anybody that is looking for a new or different style. These types of frames can feel heavy so we always recommend going for a higher quality plastic material and something that is well fitting. This will make them comfortable to wear all day long.
Cat eye with a twist
First seen in the 1930’s, this iconic look has been ever evolving. This year the cat eye takes inspiratrion from the 1950’s. Vogue eyewear teamed up with Gigi Hadid to create this narrow but chic frame. The narrower the better! However if the heavy style isn’t for you, you’re in luck as metal rimmed cat eye frames are also in “Vogue”. We’ll be seeing more and more designs filtering through into Spring/Summer 2020.
